Background
Some assignments feel big, and then there are the ones that don’t quite feel real until you’re in the middle of them.
I was selected by my division commander to cover the New York City red carpet premiere of A Journal for Jordan, a film directed by Denzel Washington and starring Michael B. Jordan, based on the story of a U.S. Soldier who had once served with my unit and was killed while deployed shortly after 9/11. With my own husband deployed at the time, the story hit especially close to home.
Attending in my Army Blues as part of the press, I captured the evening through photography, social media, interviewing, and written storytelling.
My Role
Red Carpet Photography — Captured the cast, premiere, and candid behind-the-scenes moments throughout the evening
Social Media Coverage — Shared real-time content from the event through social stories
Press Interview — Interviewed Michael B. Jordan on the red carpet (My crowning achievement in life!)
Feature Writing — Wrote the post-event feature story connecting the premiere back to the soldier and unit behind the film
Reach & Impact
Cross-Platform Storytelling — Published the feature story alongside curated photography and social content across unit platforms.
Extended Media Reach — Images from the evening appeared across entertainment media both online and on television, extending the story beyond our own channels.
Audience Connection — Brought audiences beyond the red carpet by connecting the premiere back to the Soldier and real-life story behind the film.
