Background
Some assignments feel big, and then there are the ones that don’t quite feel real until you’re in the middle of them.
I was selected by my division commander to cover the New York City red carpet premiere of A Journal for Jordan, a film directed by Denzel Washington and starring Michael B. Jordan, based on the story of a U.S. Soldier who had once served with my unit and was killed while deployed shortly after 9/11. With my own husband deployed at the time, the story hit especially close to home.
Attending in my Army Blues as part of the press, I captured the evening through photography, social media, interviewing, and written storytelling.

Captured the cast, premiere, and candid behind-the-scenes moments, with imagery appearing across entertainment media online and on television.

Shared real-time content from the event through social stories, then published curated photography across unit platforms.

Interviewed Michael B. Jordan on the red carpet. My crowning achievement in life!

Wrote the post-event feature story connecting the premiere back to the Soldier and real-life story behind the film.
