Background

One assignment opened the door to an even bigger one the following season.

I was first assigned to cover the Army vs. Navy Game while highlighting a 4th Infantry Division Soldier being recognized for his work as a linguist during Operation Allies Welcome, where he supported communication between Afghan nationals and U.S. officials. Alongside telling his story, I captured game-day photography and created real-time social content that brought our audience back in Colorado into the excitement, giving Army fans a front-row view of one of college football’s biggest rivalries from hundreds of miles away.

After proving myself in that role, I was selected to return the following season to cover Army’s game against Colgate with expanded responsibilities. This time, I took on the full multimedia package: photography, social content, graphic design, media interviewing, video production, and feature writing.

My Role

Multimedia Event Coverage — Captured photography and real-time social content across both Army football assignments, bringing the game-day experience to audiences following from afar.

Soldier Storytelling — Highlighted a 4th Infantry Division Soldier recognized at Army-Navy for his contributions during Operation Allies Welcome, weaving his story throughout the event coverage.

Graphic Design — Created promotional graphics for Army-Colgate that connected the Black Knights with the 4th Infantry Division and built anticipation ahead of game day.

Media Interviewing — Joined local news media at the Army-Colgate press conference, interviewing players and the head coach to gather perspectives and quotes for my feature.

Video Production — Produced a pregame hype video for Army-Colgate, combining original footage and editing to build anticipation ahead of kickoff.

Feature Writing — Reported and wrote the Army-Colgate feature, combining interviews, photography, game-day reporting, and the division's connection to Army football.

Bringing the Game to Colorado

With me at MetLife Stadium and our core audience hundreds of miles away in Colorado, my social coverage was designed to make followers feel like they were experiencing game day alongside me.

Through real-time social media Stories, photography, and interactive content, I brought audiences along from arrival through the game, giving them a behind-the-scenes look at the experience while keeping our featured Soldier at the center of the coverage.

The Next Season

The following season, I returned to Army football with a larger assignment. For Army vs. Colgate, I took on the full multimedia package, creating content before, during, and after game day across graphics, social media, photography, video, interviews, and feature writing.

Building the Hype

Before kickoff, I built anticipation around Army's connection to the 4th Infantry Division through promotional graphics and a fast-paced hype video, creating a visual lead-in to the game before coverage ever reached the field.

Pregame Hype Video

A Soldier's Story on a National Stage

At the center of the coverage was Sgt. Mohammad Jamil, a 4th Infantry Division Soldier recognized during Army-Navy for his linguistic support during Operation Allies Welcome. Throughout the day, I used photography and social storytelling to connect his service and recognition to the larger experience unfolding around one of college football's biggest rivalries.

Opening the day from MetLife Stadium, introducing the assignment and inviting followers to come along for the big game.

I produced a pregame hype video combining Army imagery, 4th Infantry Division storytelling, and fast-paced editing to build excitement ahead of kickoff.

Telling the Story

I brought the assignment together in a post-game feature, combining original interviews, photography, and on-the-ground reporting to tell the story of Army football's connection to the 4th Infantry Division. Read the full story here!
